  5. celebrated Italian authors; in Rome. Born Alberto Pincherle, he
  6. became Italy's best-selling author since Dante, with 49 books
  7. translated into 37 languages. His two best-selling books dealt
  8. with war and women: 1947's La Romana (The Woman of Rome) and
  9. 1957's La Ciociara, which was turned into the movie Two Women,
  10. starring Sophia Loren.
